It’s amazing what you may find in your spare change. Many people rely on credit cards these days, and do not carry cash. Those who do, may save their coins only to luckily find out they may be in possession of something valuable and collectible. Although most coins are only worth huge amounts of money when in the “S” or Proof, Uncirculated condition.
Other coins are worth money in circulated condition when they contain coin errors, although ungraded and uncertified, they will still net you more than the face value.
Although some collectors aren’t willing to pay $600 for a coin, some collectors will try to fill in complete sets of their collection, making your used circulated coin still worth more than its face value.

Remember with antiques and collectibles, what comes around goes around. What was once “hot” may be cold but give it time and it shall resurface. Even more so with the looming cryptocurrency and talk of monetary extinction, these coins may just be harder and harder to find.

As far as silver content goes, nickels were NOT silver except for an exception in a few years referred to as “war nickel years” of 1942-1945 wherein they contained about 30-35 percent silver.
